When the temperature goes up outside, the last thing you want is to be stuck inside cooking and a good collection of barbeque recipes will help you take the party outdoors.
Aye, There's the Rub
One of the best ways to get the most flavor out of whatever you are barbequing is to season it with a rub. A rub is a dried spice combination that you rub into the food, hence the name. What you put into your spice rub depends on how spicy you like your food, what you are grilling, and what beverage you are serving. If you are serving mostly beer, then I would suggest going with a stronger spice mixture. If instead you are serving wine, I would suggest a hearty red to go with beef or a dry white to go with chicken that has been treated with a strong spice rub.
Spice Rub For Barbecue Recipe
Most barbeque recipes will start with a large chunk of beef and you will want to impart as much flavor to it as you can. One way to do this is to rub the spices into the meat and then wrap it in plastic wrap and store it in your refrigerator overnight.
Basic Beef Spice Rub
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon of onion powder
- 1 tablespoon of paprika
- ½ teaspoon of cayenne
- 2 teaspoons of kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon of fresh ground pepper
Instructions
- Mix all the spices together.
- Sprinkle liberally over all sides of the meat.
- Rub vigorously into the meat.
- Wrap the meat in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, overnight is best.
- Store any leftover spice in an airtight jar or a labeled zip-top bag.
You can alter this combination as you see fit. For those of you who like a spicier taste, add more cayenne. For a milder taste, use less cayenne and ground pepper.
This is a great recipe for a get together, or just for at home. Either way, it's sure to be enjoyed.
