4 eggs

1 tablespoon instant coffee granules

Fresh berries (raspberries, preferably), optional
Directions
Set slow cooker to low heat.
In a large mixing bowl, beat butter, eggs, sugar, and vanilla until light and fluffy.
Carefully mix flour, cocoa, coffee granules, and salt into butter mixture until thoroughly combined.

4 ripe pears, preferably Bosc due to their texture

Directions
Set slow cooker to low heat.
Peel and core pears, and place in slow cooker.
In a large mixing bowl, combine wine, brown sugar, cherries, cinnamon, star anise, and peppercorn, if desired.
Pour wine mixture over pears.
Cook pears for 4 to 5 hours, or until almost tender.
Serve pears with a spoonful of cooking liquid, and top with whipped cream or melted chocolate, if desired.
